Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Minimize disease transmission by staying current on and adhering to animal care cleaning guidelines
  • Ensure excellent customer service focused on maintaining and improving relationships in all aspects of our client-related work
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness of all animal kennels while balancing the efficiency needed to care for a high volume of animals
  • Model an open adoption approach that is congruent with our organizational philosophy
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of shelter length of stay
  • Facilitate and support all aspects of adoption and arrivals processes to meet organizational objectives

  • Demonstrate safe and appropriate animal handling at all times.

  • Maintain proper opening and closing procedures for the department

About Us

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. It was founded in 1879 and operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Racine Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services, educational programming, and veterinary resources for animals from low-income households, retail stores, volunteer programs and dog training classes. The Milwaukee shelter also houses the states busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. WHS is an independent nonprofit and receives no general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella group.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

 

  • Provides constant supervision and leadership for the program participants. 

  • Assists the Recreation Supervisor and Kids Klub Supervisor in developing the schedule of activities.

  • Instructs and leads the participants in the following activities; arts-n-crafts, storytelling, cooperative games, educational components, community service projects, etc.

  • Serves as chaperone for all youth field trips and special events.

  • Works with the Recreation Department office to keep the parents and children informed of any scheduled changes.

  • Performs daily safety inspections of playground facilities and equipment, reporting any problem areas to Recreation Supervisor.

  • Records daily attendance and tracks that participants are pre-paid, otherwise notifying the Recreation Supervisor so participants can be billed.

  • Handles the questions and complaints of parents in the best most tactful manner possible.

  • Always wears a Recreation Department Staff Shirt when working.

  • Always the last person to leave the designated program site, making sure all children are safely on their way home.

  • Meets with Recreation Supervisor for performance evaluations.

  • Performs related duties as directed by the Recreation Supervisor and Kids Klub Supervisor.

 

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge and experience in supervision of children in an educational or recreational setting, skills in communication and public relations, and ability to effectively plan, organize, and implement recreational activities (i.e., arts-n-crafts, active games etc.).  Must hold current First Aid and CPR certifications.

  •             Knowledge and experience in supervision of children.
